Letta S. Baker Mason is a visionary educator, curriculum designer, and cultural leader with over 30 years of experience transforming learning environments for Black children, families, and communities. As founder of Sankofa Educational Services, she designs culturally responsive and Afrofuturistic curricula that affirm Black identity, joy, and brilliance—especially for Black girls navigating systemic educational barriers.

Letta holds multiple degrees and certifications in education, human development, leadership, and special education. She is currently completing her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction Design and leadership in higher education at the American College of Education. She is a certified teacher, principal, and program manager with endorsements in bilingual education, special education, and trauma-informed teaching.

Letta has served as faculty at numerous colleges and universities, including Evergreen State College in Tacoma, Seattle Central College, and Goddard College in Vermont. She has led Black Studies initiatives for Seattle Public Schools, trained school leaders in Ghana, and mentored aspiring educators across the U.S. and internationally. Her professional journey spans classrooms, colleges, churches, and communities—from paraprofessional educators to faculty lead, youth advocates, and national workshop facilitators.

A specialist in curriculum development, Letta has authored several groundbreaking programs, including Afro Futuristic Adventures (with titles on Granville T. Woods and Dr. Katherine Dunham), the Melanin Poppin Girls curriculum at Leschi Elementary, and the Black Studies U.S. History curriculum for Seattle Public Schools. Her award-winning children's books and teacher guides celebrate Black culture, heritage, and imagination.

Letta's work is rooted in justice, healing, and the transformative power of education. She champions equity for Black children from preschool to postsecondary education as a trainer in Effective Black Parenting, Family First, and social-emotional learning. She advocates dismantling the preschool-to-prison pipeline and building bridges between education, the arts, and community leadership.

Letta frequently presents topics such as Historically Responsive Literacy, UDL, Black child development, STEAMS, and identity-based instruction. She brings a bold and loving voice to every space she enters. Her leadership has earned honors, including the Philip B. Swain Excellence in Education Award, Kent Teacher of the Year, and a No. 1 New Release in African Children's Literature.

She is a proud member of the National Black Child Development Association and Black Child Alliance Association and the founder of Sankofa Educational Services, where she continues to build educational futures rooted in ancestral wisdom, innovation, and Black joy.
